Skip Counting

Recently, we have been talking a lot with Katie about skip counting.  She has been coloring hundreds charts, playing skip-counting games, and today we even read a story about it.  After we finished reading we had the following conversation:

Katie: You can skip count by any number!

Me: I guess so.

Katie: No wait, that’s not true.  You can’t skip count by 1’s.

Me: Why not?

Katie: Because then you’re not skipping anything.

Me: Yeah, I guess you’re right.  If you go by 1’s then you’re just plain counting.

Katie: And you can’t skip count by zeroes.

Me: And why not?

Katie: (after a pause) well maybe you could…

Me: Ok, try skip counting by zeroes.  What do you get?

Katie: Zero,…, zero, zero, zero 🙂

I guess you skip lot of numbers this way!
